The Community Support Foundation is busy growing and building on the legacy of giving begun in 1999 by the Nelson County Education Endowment Fund. That independent, non-profit fund made its first awards in August 2001. Since then it has raised and distributed many thousands of dollars in the form of scholarships and grants to enhance, enrich and supplement student learning. This support has been a critical part of the academic growth and success of the Nelson County Schools.
Reorganized and renamed, the Nelson County Schools Community Support Foundation is committed to reimagining possibilities
In The Nelson County Schools, we know that K-2 literacy is foundational for the experiences that we want our students to have as they write their future story. Students who read on grade level by the end of 2nd grade are much more likely to graduate high school, less likely to live in poverty, and will have foundational skills that will allow student leadership, early college, work-based learning, and caretaking experiences to leave powerful impressions that will guide their future work. We also know that the most important factor in K-2 literacy is an awareness of books and the power of having books read to them during those early year. Thus, our partnership with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library will provide the first step on a powerful story for literacy in The Nelson County Schools.
